Bulgaria: Bulgaria Ranks First in Codid-19 Mortality on the Balkans

Bulgaria is ranked 5th in Europe and 2nd in the Balkans by morbidity, reported State Chief Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev. We are 3th in the EU in mortality after Hungary and the Czech Republic and 1st in the Balkans. Sofia and Silistra have the highest morbidity, as the morbidity of the Balkans is growing, Kunchev added. Hospitalized at the moment are much more than during the second wave. This is due to the British strain, he explained.

EMA is still assessing other vaccine candidates for which no authorisation has yet been granted. With regard to Sputnik V, an inspection of the production facilities in Russia will be carried out. Only after this inspection will we be able to move on to the next stage. China's Sinovak vaccine is still being discussed, said Bogdan Kirilov, CEO of the Bulgarian Drug Agency.

In Bulgaria 700,000 doses are expected in April, of which 350,000 will be RNA vaccines. Around April 16, the first shipment of Johnson & Johnson vaccine will arrive, Kirilov said.

The number of cured almost reached the number of infected. The number of hospitalized per day equals the number of patients discharged. Hospitals have a reserve in Sofia, even with an increase in the number of infected we can react adequately, said the Director of "Pirogov" emergency hospital Asen Baltov.

The number of people hospitalized in Kyustendil, Burgas region, Silistra is dwindling, however, in Plovdiv, Varna there is an increase, Baltov also reported. We are loaded with everything we need, there is no oxygen deficiency, which is the main thing patients need. There is no such pressure as we had in November and December, Baltov said. He also stressed that the best vaccine is the administered vaccine.
