Bulgaria: Bulgaria: Prime Minister Is Optimistic – We’ll Overcome Pandemic In May - June

“We will overcome the pandemic by May-June,” stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Byala, where he inspected the new sports venue together with Sports Minister Krasen Kralev.

He stressed that 230,000 doses of vaccines will arrive in our country by the end of this week, and more than 700,000 are expected in April. Borisov expressed confidence that by the end of April there will be about 1.5 million Bulgarians to be either immunised or with antibodies.

The Prime Minister explained that he relies on GPs and healthcare professionals to roll out the vaccination as quickly as possible and to administer 10-15,000 vaccines a day.

He pointed out that measures are to be loosened stepwise based on data on vaccinated and recovered people.

In his words, kindergartens and nurseries will be reopened from Monday, and the options for returning students from 5th thtpough 12th grade to classes from April 12 under a certain scheme are also discussed. It applies to higher educational establishments as well as to practically any others that can not do without in-person training. The outdoor areas of the restaurants will also open.

Borisov pointed out that the theaters, philharmonics, galleries and museums will also resume working, initially at 30% capacity, and subsequently at 50%.Gyms and spa centers also reopen.

According to the Prime Minister, in an extremely difficult environment, this will ensure the optimal balance between measures and people's mental health.

"We open and then close for 10-15 days, just like stretching a rubber band. When people get tired, we open up again," he explained.

In Byala, the Prime Minister also announced that Hemus Motorway is being built at full steam, and soon the section of the road Veliko Tarnovo-Ruse will be laid out.

Regarding the criticism of his political opponents, Borisov said that they have done nothing, but "they have no equals in blabbering".

The Prime Minister examined the new multifunctional sports venue, for which the government allocated BGN 1,800,000 to the Municipality of Byala in 2019. The size of the hall allows conducting competitions and trainings in volleyball, basketball, handball, football, tennis, badminton, wrestling, boxing, judo, weightlifting, etc. In 2018, the cabinet again provided the municipality with BGN 3,682,672 for completion and equipment of "Panayot Volov" Secondary School, which is the largest secondary school in the municipality. Over 380 children from 5th to 12th grade study there as the school has a highly qualified teaching team.
