Chairman of GERB Boyko Borissov participated today in a videoconference summit of the EPP. The focus of the talks was on vaccine supplies and the Union's relations with Turkey and Russia, which heads of state and government leaders will discuss at the European Council starting today.
Addressing his EPP colleagues Boyko Borissov emphasized the huge work that the EC and its President Ursula von der Leyen have done to order a sufficient number of vaccines for the EU population.
"In this difficult situation, it is even more important that vaccine manufacturers comply with their contracts with the EC, because the rollout of immunization campaigns in the Member States fully depends on this. The delay in the supply of vaccines is already becoming a political issue", commented Borisov.
In this regard, he welcomes the willingness of the EC to apply different measures to pharmaceutical companies in order to make them speed up the supply of medicines.
"The fundamental values of the EU are unity and solidarity. Let's show it now. No country should be left alone in this crisis and we need to help each other when necessary", stressed the Chairman of GERB.
Commenting on the EU relations with Turkey and Russia, Borisov was adamant: "Peace and diplomacy - this is how every single problem must be solved. Both sides are important partners of ours and maintaining an active dialogue with them is a must. However, as Europe's largest party, we must not make compromises in our relations with respect for fundamental European values and mutual trust."
In conclusion, the leaders of the EPP wished success to Borissov and GERB in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bulgaria on 4 April.
"It has always been my honor to be part of the EPP family. Thanks for the support over the years. For GERB, as well as for the EPP - tolerance, respect for democratic principles and ensuring better living standards for people are key priorities. We have a plan for the development of the country and it is clearly described in our program. We are confident that we can help the country and the economy move forward", noted the Chairman of GERB.
