Bulgaria: Ranking the Biggest Events in Sports pixabay.com

We take a look at some of the biggest events across the most globally recognized and followed sports in the world. Because of how much training and planning many of these competitions take, some of these sports only take place every two or four years, making it even more special when these events come round, drawing in crowds from all over the globe.

Although we’ve left esports off this list, it’s worth noting that predictions say these may very well overtake the crowds generated by regular sports, in the coming years. CS:GO in particular draws a lot of interest and has some of the biggest viewing crowds of any video game audience. Many fans of the game like to tune in to watch their favorite teams and players and even bet on tournaments. Many of the best CS:GO roulette sites offer other gambling alternatives like skins betting and much more. These can be great to play alongside following your favorite teams at the pro level.

1. NBA Finals, US

Here, you experience 82 very beautiful games and a very long postseason, which eventually culminate into a seven game series that holds the entire nation spellbound. While this goes on, the festivities that come with it attract many people, while others watch either to berate or boo the so called basketball king, LeBron James. The event is traditional and is viewed in 215 countries and broadcast in up to 47 languages.

2. Kentucky Derby, US

The Kentucky Derby festival is a two weeks event, and to round it off, three year old thoroughbreds square up in one of the most eventful two minutes in sports.  This has been happening every year since 1875, and this, coupled with a quarter mile horse racing, makes up the Triple Crown’s first leg. However, to be truthful to ourselves, the major things about this event are the hefty bets and wine spritzers, and not watching the horses as they gallop around on the racetracks. This received a total $165.2 million in bets in 2011.

3. Wimbledon, England

This is the oldest tennis tournament the world over, and many people also see it as the most prestigious. It has been happening at Wimbledon’s All England Club in London since 1877. This is the only major that still happens on grass, and it takes place within two weeks towards the end of June and the beginning of July. This comes with very exciting traditions, like the strict dress code and the fact that cream and strawberries are eaten to reveal its class. On another hand, this event’s popularity is summed up by the amount of sparkling wine involved. The event normally sees more than 2500 bottles of champagne consumed.

4. Polo at Palermo, Argentina

Many people called this the River Plate Polo Championship from 1893-1923, and it takes place right inside the cathedral of polo, a few minutes’ drive from the city of Buenos Aires. This sport came from the Argentinians and it is one that combines the same amounts of athleticism and fashion. This makes it gracious and elegant to behold. In Argentina alone, there are more than 3000 polo players.

5. The Masters Tournament, US

Inspired by the duo of great golfers Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts in 1934, golf still finds its heart and soul in the masters. The first of these tournaments have witnessed great golfers Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead land on the Augusta surface. Here also, Tiger Wood made his abode, landing up to 4 victories on the great ground. You know that illustrious green jacket? Every great golfer wants to have it. The stats here are that for every round, there are up to 30,000 to 40,000 attendees.

6. The Grand National, England

This happens at the Aintree racecourse every year since it started in 1839. It is a very rich race where the will and closeness of the horses and their jockeys are really tested in more than four miles. In this race, stability and speed are combined in an amazing manner, as you enjoy the pleasure of horses jumping up to 30 fences. When you watch this world treasure, you will notice that only a very few of the horses complete the race. The worldwide audience for this race is estimated to be up to 600 million.

7. The Super Bowl, US

Here, you will enjoy three hours of modern madness on the football field, capped with the very hilarious ads that bring smiles to people’s faces amidst the seriousness of the game. However, many people believe that the event is now more about overpriced ads than the greatness of the play. However, that removes nothing from the fact that people still drool over this annual event that comes after a set of memorable payoffs. There is always constant munching as people are consumed by the quest for the Lombardi Trophy. That is why 100 million pounds worth of wings was consumed during the 2012 super bowl.

8. The 24 Hours of Le Mans, France

Here, the past and present races are characterized by efficiency and endurance. Since the arrival of this race in 1983, both old school and modern day vehicles have been involved in the 24 Hours of Le Mans as the race against stability and time in the French countryside lingers. Many people see it as the most strenuous of all car races ever. In the Circuit de la Sarthe, both permanent racetracks and closed public roads abound, coupled with a breathtaking visage. The event of this year had more than 240,000 spectators.

9. The Olympic Games

For up to two weeks in every two years, alternating between winter and summer games, the world witnesses the greatest gathering of athletes from all over the world. Apart from the boycotts, bribery scandals and doping allegations, events of the Olympic happen as the Greek gods envisaged it. Here, you witness athleticism in its purity. This event has witnessed a lot of upsets, ranging from the loss of the Soviet Union Hockey team to the team from the United States in the Miracle on Ice in 1980, to the win by the wrestler named Rulon Gardner, and many others. The London games will have up to 375 doctors, to show you the greatness of the event.

10. The FIFA World Cup

Every four years, one full month is always dedicated to this world showpiece that gets the people of the world to turn their attention to watching 32 qualifying countries slug it out in the battle of supremacy and the golden trophy. Starting from the thrusting of flags, the passion of the fans that can ignite fires and quench the same, the amazing foot skills of the players on the pitch, the most amazing tournament known to man is created. The USA vs. Algeria match in the 2010 showpiece in South Africa has the record of the most viewed game in the world, as it garnered up to 6,161,000 viewers world over.
