More countries in Europe are returning quarantine measures because of the coronavirus. Belgium has introduced restrictions on gathering people in one place and even curfew in two areas.
Greece has made protective masks mandatory indoors, and Germany has warned not to visit northern Spain. In Belgium, the infection has returned. There has been a significant increase in the number of new infections, especially in and around Antwerp.
"Until now, social isolation has allowed everyone to meet with a maximum of 15 people a week. As of Wednesday, that number has been reduced to 5 people. The measure will be in force for four weeks," said Sophie Wilmes, the Belgian prime minister.
If possible, everyone should work from home. A visit to the store should not be longer than 30 minutes, and family gatherings are limited to 10 people. The government has warned that these measures are being introduced to avoid re-imposing full quarantine, as was the case in the spring of the epidemic.
After Britain, Germany also imposed restrictions on visiting Spain. Despite protests from Madrid that tourists are not at risk, Berlin has ordered not to visit the provinces of Catalonia, Navarre and Aragon. Spanish hoteliers have estimated that stopping tourists from the two countries alone will cost 10 billion euros.
"Look at the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Valencia, Andalusia - we have lower levels of infection there than are currently in the UK itself. Tourists will be safer in these provinces than in their home country," said Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain.
Despite the reassurances of the Prime Minister, Madrid today introduced stricter requirements for wearing masks. Protective equipment will now be mandatory everywhere - even outdoors. The number of visitors at the outdoor tables of the restaurants is limited to 10 people. An earlier time is introduced by which the bars must be closed.
