In a first plenary session, MPs will discuss at first reading the changes to the Health Act, which introduce a ban on smoking hookah indoors.

The bill was submitted by MPs from the United Patriots Group, headed by NFSB leader Valery Simeonov. Importers aim to protect the health of children and adolescents by introducing administrative and other measures to restrict the use of non-tobacco water pipes.

Water pipe smokers (hookah) inhale toxic substances, which are also found in standard cigarettes, but in the hookah the charcoal, which ignites the mixture, intensifies the health damage. The health hazards of hookah smoking are associated with damage to the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, the dental cavity and the teeth, said the importers.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Science have supported the changes and identified them as necessary and timely as the widespread use of tobacco-free water pipes is a serious risk factor for the life and health of the growing generation.
