Bulgaria: Bulgarian PM Borissov Met his Macedonian Counterpart Zaev in Sofia

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with his Macedonian counterpart Zoran Zaev in Sofia on 4th of February.The talks between them focused on the upcomimg signing of Macedonia’s acession protocol with NATO, the implementation of the Good Neighbourly Agreement between Bulgaria and Macedonia and the joint infrastructure projects. The ministers of culture of both countries signed a cooperation programme, reports BNT.

The two Prime Ministers described today’s meeting as friendly. Boyko Borissov stressed that despite some may not like it, the Bulgarian EU Presidency will remain in history as Bulgaria putting the topic of Western Balkans on the table, and all states now consider that the efforts were not in vain.

Borissov thanked the European Commission, the European Council and the European leaders for the European perspective given to the Western Balkan countries. He said there wass also a symbolism in the fact that after nearly three decades of waiting, the signing of Macedonia's accession to NATO would take place on 6 February at NATO Headquarters in Brussels and Bulgaria was the first country to ratify the protocol.

Zoran Zave has said that without the Bulgarian people and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, nothing of what is happening with Macedonia today would have been possible. He described the Bulgarians as true brothers of the Macedonians. He called it a historic chance for the forthcoming signing of the NATO membership.

Earlier today, the ministers of culture of Bulgaria and Macedonia paid their respects before the monument of Gotse Delchev in Sofia on the occasion of the 147th anniversary of the revolutionary’s birth.
