Bulgaria: Kosovo Considering 120-day Suspension of Tax pixabay.com

Speaker of Kosovo Parliament and chairman of Democratic Party of Kosovo, PDK, Kadri Veseli said the 100 percent tax imposed by Government on all imported goods from Serbia and Bosnia will not be revoked, but it may be suspended temporarily under some conditions as a good will sign towards the US and European Union, Gazeta Express reported.

Veseli took Facebook on Monday to propose a 1210-day suspension of tax on imported goods of Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina if these two countries take “concrete measures” convincing Kosovo to rescind the tariffs. “The customs tax will not be revoked, but it will be a 120-day suspension and during this period concrete conditions on its suspension should enter into force. If no measures are taken after 120 days, and if behavior of Serbia and Bosnia are not radically changed, the tax will be reintroduced, as well as other decisions which automatically lead to full reciprocal measures between the two countries,” Veseli said.

Veseli’s proposal came after meeting on Monday the US Ambassador to Kosovo, Philip Kosnett. The US Embassy issued a statement last week urging Kosovo authorities to urgently suspend the tax and resume the dialogue with Serbia. “Kosovo needs no colliding course either with the US or EIU. On the contrary! The language of conditioning of our key strategic allies – US and EU – will not help Kosovo or defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity, or help us lead towards Euro-Atlantic integrations,” Veseli wrote.
