Bulgaria: The US Imposes Duties to the EU, Canada and Mexico time.com

The US will impose extra charges on imports of aluminum and steel from European Union countries, Canada and Mexico as of midnight on July 1. This was announced by US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.

Ross told reporters that negotiations with the EU have not resulted in reaching a satisfactory agreement to persuade Washington to free the country from the organization of the tariffs imposed in March.

Meanwhile, negotiations with Canada and Mexico to revise the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) "take longer than expected" and there is no "exact date" for their completion, added Ross cited by AFP and Focus.

Earlier today, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced today that the EU will react firmly and united to the new US steel and aluminum duties.

"We want to be exempt from these tariffs, which are incompatible with the rules of the World Trade Organization," Merkel said.

Many fear that US duties will spark a trade war in the world. There is tension because of that among the Asian allies of the United States.
