Bulgaria's Deprivation Rate Drops but Still Among Highest in EU
According to the latest Eurostat data published today, 6.8% of the European Union's population experienced severe material and social deprivation in 2023
The European Commission today presented a study on the opinion of EU citizens about justice. According to data, 53 percent of Europeans say that most of the things that happen in their lives are fair, while only 38 percent of Bulgarians think that.
61 per cent of Bulgarian citizens say that they are in good health and 78 per cent of the rest of the EU. 83 percent of people in the EU and 62 percent of Bulgarians feel happy.
More than double the difference in responses to the issue of equal opportunities for progress in life - 58% of people in the EU feel on an equal footing with others, whereas in Bulgaria this is only 32%. According to the survey, Bulgarians place the need to be healthy to advance their lives (73 per cent vs. 48 per cent in the EU).
"Knowing the right people" to make progress is the answer of 22 percent of the other Europeans and 56 percent of the Bulgarian participants in the consultation. "To be lucky" is the answer of 21% of the people in the EU and 60% of the Bulgarians. "To have political ties," 10% of Europeans and 37% of Bulgarian participants are responsible.
The majority of Bulgarians (91 per cent) and Europeans (84 per cent) state that income disparities are too great. The majority of us and the rest of the EU (81 per cent) are of the opinion that in order to change this, governments should take action.
