Kosovo President Hashim Thaci addressing to media on Saturday said that the six arrested and extradited Turkish nationals suspected of their alleged links with Fetullah Gulen, were involved in “illegal activities” and were “threatening national security” of Kosovo, Gazeta Express reports.
Thaci citing a report of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA) explained circumstances and procedures which lead to arrest and deportation of the six Turkish men over alleged links to schools financed by the Gulen Movement, which Turkish President Erdogan accuses of a failed coup in 2016.

According to the KIA report the only reason why these Turkish nationals were deported was that while in Kosovo they were involved in “illegal actions” and according to the KIA “posed threat to national security” of Kosovo.

But despite backing their deportation, Thaci said that this case will be thoroughly investigated by the Prosecution office and those responsible will be held accountable if violation of the law is confirmed.

Commenting on the decision of the Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, to sack minister of Interior and chief of the KIA for not informing him on the operation, Thaci said that the Prime Minister’s decision came after consultations but he refused to comment whether he will sign the decree to dismiss the KIA chief as foreseen by the law.

The Prime Minister Haradinaj after an urgent meeting of the Kosovo’s National Security Council announced that relevant authorities will launch an investigation related to this case. The arrest and deportation of the six Turkish nationals was condemned by ruling and opposition parties as well as representatives of the civil society blaming authorities for failing to protect foreigners living and working in Kosovo and for disregarding the set legal procedures for deportation of foreign citizens
