US Condemns Deadly Attacks on Syria's Minorities Amid Escalating Coastal Violence
The United States has strongly condemned recent killings in western Syria, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing outrage at the murders
The largest convoy to date, with which rebels and peaceful civilians evacuate from Eastern Ghouta, left the rebel area last night. This was reported by the Syrian state media, the France press reported.
One hundred buses carrying a total of 6749 people, a quarter of which, rebels, left the night from an area in the enclave controlled by the Faylak ar Rahman group, the official agency said.
The evacuation is taking place within an agreement last week by an Islamist group with Russia supporting the regime after an air and ground operation launched in February by President Bashar Assad's forces kneeled the rebel fortress besieged in 2013. Authorities have already regained control of over 90 percent of this territory.
Crushed by the fiery avalanche of the offensive and overwhelmed by the five-year siege, the rebel groups set one-by-one to leave their positions in Ghouta and withdraw to the northwest Provinces of Idlib, still uncontrolled by the regime.
At the beginning of the year, Damascus declared it a priority to recover Eastern Ghouta from where rebels launched missiles at the capital, AFP reminds.
During the past three days, 13,190 rebels and their family members were taken to Idlib, according to data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, quoted by TASS.
