The population of the megacities suffers far more from skin diseases than the people in smaller settlements. This is shown by a South Korean study.
Previously, air pollution was thought to be the major cause of skin diseases, but this has not yet been scientifically proven. Researchers have analyzed the life of microorganisms inhabiting human skin. They took samples from 231 women from 5 Chinese cities. Three of these cities are considered large and the other two are megacities. It has been found that the inhabitants of the megapolis have much less of the skin microorganisms than those living in the big cities.
Accordingly, the more microorganisms inhabit our skin, the less the risk of getting dermatitis, the researchers conclude.
