Three in four Bulgarians prefer future changes in election rules to occur after they have been carefully considered, a recent opinion poll shows.

The survey conducted by Gallup International between November 22 and 23 aims to show the basic attitudes on important current issues.
It reveals 76% back a careful change in election rules to avoid “chaos”. The view that a swift amendment is needed to adhere to the will of the people is shared by 21%, while respondents who said they could not say were 3% of the total.

The question follows a non-binding national referendum in which voters overwhelmingly backed the introduction of a first-past-the-post electoral system that should replace the current one based on proportional representation.

Nearly half of people (48%) in Bulgaria agree with the statement that ''It is not important to observe the law, but to put those who are corrupted in prison ''.This shows willingness for justice and serious expectations in that direction.

21% of them prefer changes of the Election Law to be implemented as soon as possible, in order to comply with the will of people. The rest of the of them are not sure or it is difficult to answer.

85% of people in Bulgaria have heard about the accusations against former and current ministers, showing high interest about the political life among the public.

Over 70%, for example, approves that Rumen Ovcharov was accused, and around 60% of them approves the charges against Dobrev and Petar Moskov.

The report shows that the most common belief among the people is that the political power in Bulgaria is corrupted. The longer one politician participated in political life, the greater is the public negativity against him.
