Bulgaria should take more urgent measures to deport migrants who cannot obtain refugee status, President-elect Rumen Radev has said.
Radev, speaking to reporters after a conference of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, has underlined that authorities must act in line with the "agreements within the European Union" which should now be applied.
While he has not referred to a specific document, the EU and Afghanistan signed earlier this year an agreement that paves the way for the deportation of an unlimited number of migrants on charter flights.
Radev's comment follows riots at the migrant accommodation and reception center in Harmanli, with 300 residents having been detained.
Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borisov asserts that an arrangement has been made to "extradite" some of the Afghan migrants in December.
