Bulgaria: Credit Suisse: Bulgarians Become USD 2 B Poorer in One Year BGNES

Bulgarian citizens have become USD 2 B poorer this year, compared to 2015, showed data from the report of private bank Credit Suisse.

According to the data, the total wealth of Bulgarians in 2016 amounted to USD 87 B, while in 2015, it was USD 89 B. In 2016, the wealth of an adult person in Bulgaria amounted to USD 14,824, out of which financial assets accounted for USD 9,159 and non-financial assets for USD 8,748.

As a whole, the total wealth of Bulgarians has marked a constant slump since 2014 when people over the age of 18 had USD 97 B. The total wealth of Bulgarians in 2016 is the second lowest in the last decade. Bulgarians had less only in 2006 – USD 79 B.

Bulgarians were richer even in the years after the onslaught of the financial crisis – 2008 (USD 100 B), 2009 (USD 91 B), 2010 (USD 88 B), showed data of Credit Suisse.

Regarding average wealth per person, the regression proceeds as follows: 2014 – USD 16,319, 2015 – USD 15,019 and 2016 – USD 14,824.

The report also shows that the average indebtedness of Bulgarians has increased, reaching its second highest level in the last 16 years – USD 3,083.

By comparison, in 2015, an adult Bulgaria owed USD 2,694 on average.

Adult Bulgarians owed most on average in 2009 – USD 4,118.
