Hungary's parliamentary committee approved a draft law providing the country to not change their time and to stay on Daylight Saving Time (DST) all year.

The Hungarian nationalist opposition party Jobbik's MP, Lajos Kepli, proposed Hungary to use only UTC+2 during the whole year. It would decrease energy costs, but would force Hungarian students to go to school every morning before sunrise from mid-November to the end of February in exchange for more daylight in the afternoon.

In a parliamentary debate back in April, Jobbik had already proposed introducing permanent ''summer time'' in Hungary but Lajos Fónagy, state secretary in charge for energy policy, rejected the idea.

Kepli argues that using “summer time” during the whole year in Hungary would be much more cost-effective than the current system and it would also improve the Hungarians’ mental health, according to Hungary Today News

A Hungarian research, says also the media outlet, represents that the 80% of the society would agree to use “summer time” during the whole year in Hungary.

In addition, a research on epidemiology.com writes about daylight saving time transitions and the incidence rate of unipolar depression episodes: “Daylight saving time transitions affect approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide. Prior studies have documented associations between daylight saving time transitions and adverse health outcomes, but it remains unknown whether they also cause an increase in the incidence rate of depressive episodes. This seems likely because daylight saving time transitions affect circadian rhythms, which are implicated in the etiology of depressive disorder. Therefore, we investigated the effects of daylight saving time transitions on the incidence rate of unipolar depressive episodes.”
