Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will not be the country's nomination for European Commissioner, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.

Borisov is yet to make clear who will be proposed as a successor to Kristalina Georgieva, the Bulgarian EU Commissioner who on Friday said she would leave in January to take over a CEO position at the World Bank Group.

After the news was announced, government sources, cited by daily 24 Chasa, said followed that Plevneliev was set to take over as the EU Commissioner representing the Bulgaria after Kristalina Georgieva's departure, sources close to the government say.

Plevneliev's term of office expires in January and he is not running for another one in next week's elections. The Presidency of Bulgaria denies the reports.
