The new nominee of the Bulgarian government for UN Secretary General has been registered officially as the 13th candidate to succeed Ban Ki-moon in the international organisation.
Kristalina Georgieva’s name and her brief concept of how she imagines the tasks of the organisation have been published on the official webpage of the UN.
Out of the 12 initial candidates, 3 stepped down and, after registering the Vice President of the EC, there are now 10 remaining nominees. Irina Bokova, nominated by the Bulgarian government in February, is still among them. Six out of the ten candidates are from Eastern Europe.
In her vision, presented in 6 languages, Georgieva stated that it is “clear and simple – in a changing world, the global organisation has to keep up with the times, to become topical again and help the ones in need.”
This means working in three spheres – peace, security, prevention and settlement of conflicts, sustainable development, climate change and human rights, trust in the Secretary General by the member-states so that he/she can carry out reforms and apply the good management practices which the UN needs.
