A protest is to be held in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Sunday amid reports of a project to cut down part of the trees and begin construction works in a key city park.
Sofia residents are to begin their deminstration at Ariana Lake, located at the entrance of Borisova garde, at 11:30 local time.
In the event's page on Facebook, several hundred people have said they are attending, and nearly 1000 are "interested".
Reports emerged earlier this week, following a public debate on the park's development, that municipal authorities were considering options to start construction works and remove a third of the trees.
Sofia officials have repeatedly denied such intentions, with Mayor Yordanka Fandakova stating she will allow no construction within the park's territory.
