Bulgaria: Refugees Forbidden To Leave Harmanli Camp

Nearly half of the refugee camp in Harmanli will be remodeled as a closed-type facility in about a month’s time. The migrants located in the closed-off part will not be able to leave it, decided the State Agency for Refugees, the Ministry of Interior and local authorities.

Construction works will be carried out in order to put a fence around the camp. Interior Ministry employees will guard the camp. A few days ago, over 800 refugees took part in a mass fight downtown. This increased discontent among the local populace and resulted in a series of protests demanding greater control over the inhabitants of the camp.
