Bulgaria: Fire Near Bulgaria's Topolovgrad Contained File photo, BGNES

The blaze that broke out in the area of Topolovgrad municipality in Southern Bulgaria has been largely contained, private bTV station reports.

There are several sites where flames are still raging, but the situation is under control, according to local officials.

The fire spread to a front of 7 kilometers into the surroundings of the villages of Radovets, Prisadets and Filipovo on Wednesday evening.

The villages themselves were not affected, and none of the residents were hurt.

A care home for people with mental health problems, where 70 people live, had to be evacuated.

The total area affected is around 15 square kilometers.

Risk of fire remains high in Southern Bulgaria, with four regions placed under a warning by the country's weather service. including the region of Haskovo, where Topolovgrad lies.

The other three are Kardzhali, Sliven, and Stara Zagora.
