The Bulgarian town of Kyustendil honoured Vladimir Dimitrov – Maystora (The Master) with a large-scale portrait of him drawn on the central square.

Thirty young painters from the local art school “Young masters”, aided by volunteers recreated one of Dimitrov's self-portraits.

More than sixty people contributed to the drawing which spans 1000 square metres and took three days to be completed.

The large-scale portrait was painted with one tonne of special non water-resistant paint. The colourful portrait is reminiscent of the style of the painter, who spent large part of his life in the town and the surrounding villages.

The paint is resistant to one or two raining periods, with the hopes being for the painting to last until the end of July. The best viewing point of the portrait is from the local park Hisarlaka.

Born in the village of Frolosh near Kyustendil in 1882, Dimitrov was one of the most prominent Bulgarian artists painting in the first half of the 20th century.
