Bulgaria: Bulgaria Govt Appoints New Deputy Defense Minister File photo, BGNES

An advisor to Bulgaria's Defense Minister is now taking over as his deputy, the government says.

Retired Gen Atanas Zapryanov held a number of positions within the Bulgarian Armed Forces since 1974, later becoming head of the National Military Academy and subsequently Deputy Chief of Staff. He was appointed advisor to Minister Nikolay Nenchev early in 2015, after having assumed the same office under Minister Anyu Angelov (2009-2013).

He is replacing Dimitar Kyumyurdzhiev, who was elected deputy chair of anti-trust watchdog KZK at the end of June.
