The migrant pressure exerted on Bulgaria this year has decreased compared to the same period last year.

This was announced by Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova during her participation at a working meeting on crime prevention held in Vidin on Friday.

Despite the drop in migrant pressure, the interior ministry was making all efforts to detain migrants illegally entering the country.

According to her, the fact that more migrants were being detained in the region of Vidin on their way out of Bulgaria showed that the system was functioning more than well.

On Thursday alone, around ninety refugees have been detained by Bulgarian authorities. Large part of them had registrations which means that they were attempting to leave the country illegally.

The interior minister reiterated that at present there is no increase of migrant flows and their routes do not pass through Bulgaria. There has even been 40 % decrease in the number of migrants passing through the country.

In Vidin, Bachvarova attended a working meeting with representatives of regional governors, local authorities, law enforcement structures, prosecution, the regional directorates of the interior ministry.

The meeting was part of the initiative of the interior ministry and the National association of municipalities which aims to engage all institutions responsible for improving the security environment.
