Atanas Skatov Climbed his Ninth Eight-Thousander and Is Looking Forward to the "Crown of the Himalaya"
That night at 4:09 am Bulgarian time the alpinist Atanas Skatov climbed to the 13th highest peak of the planet - Gasherbrum 2.
Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov will make an attempt to ascend two more eight-thousanders in the next two months.
Petrov, who wants to become the first Bulgaria to have conquered all fourteen eight-thousanders, will attempt to ascend Nanga Parbat (8126 metres) and Gasherbrum II (8035 metres).
Both of the peaks, which are respectively the ninth and thirteenth highest in the world, are located in Pakistan.
These are the last two eight-thousanders located in Pakistan which have not been climbed by Petrov.
His first ascent of eight-thousander was that of Gasherbrum I (8080 metres) in 2009,while two years ago he climbed K2 (8611 metres) and Broad Peak (8051 metres).
So far this year, Petrov has climbed two eight-thousanders - Annapurna (8091 metres) and Makalu (8485 metres), which he conquered in the past two months.
So far, he has climbed half of the eight-thousanders, with his best performance being three in one year.
This is the first year Nanga Parbat is open for climbing since the Taliban attack at the base camp in 2013 which claimed the lives of ten foreign mountaineers and one Pakistani guide.
For the first time, a winter ascent of the peak was achieved earlier this year.
