Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Zoran Stavrevski has resigned, citing health reasons.

Stavreski said that the need for a long-term medical treatment would make it impossible for him to perform his functions, Macedonian news agency MIA reported on Tuesday.

Zoran Stavreski is seen as one of the closest associates of VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski, according to media reports. Stavreski has been part of VMRO-DPMNE government since 2006 as deputy premier in charge of economy. Since 2009 he has also served as finance minister.

According to MIA, interim Prime Minister Emil Dimitriev will propose that the head of the National Revenue Agency Kiril Minovski be appointed as new finance minister, replacing Stavreski.
