The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK) claimed on Friday responsibility for the car bombing in the Istanbul district of Beyazit on Tuesday which claimed the lives of eleven people and left 36 other injured.

The attack targeted a police bus passing near a metro station and Istanbul University in the Vezneciler neighbourhood.

A suicide bomber detonated a bomb-laden car which resulted in the death of seven police officers and four civilians.

TAK, a splinter of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has recently carried out several attacks on civilians and security forces, including the deadly bombings in Ankara in February and March.

In a statement, TAK issued a threat to Turkey, saying the country is no longer safe for foreign tourists, Hurriyet Daily informs.

According to footage from security cameras in the area of the attack, the suicide bomber has been identified as a woman who had arrived in Istanbul twenty days before the attack.

On Wednesday, another car bomb attack took place in the Midyat district in the southeastern province of Mardin which claimed the lives of at least three people and left thirty other injured.

PKK claimed responsibility for the bombing which left two civilians and one police officer dead.
