Bulgaria: Bulgarian Democratic Centre to Keep Its Parliamentary Group

The parliamentary group of the Bulgarian Democratic Centre (BDC) will not be dissolved.

Last week, five MPs announced their withdrawal from the parliamentary group due to a reshuffling of BDC members in parliamentary committees which had ousted them from important positions.

The five MPs, who are members of the People's Union party, were also reportedly discontent with the decision of the other faction in the parliamentary group to start supporting the government.

The withdrawal of the five MPs meant that the parliamentary group will be dissolved as it would not have the required minimum of ten MPs.

However the two factions managed to reconcile their difference and instead of being dissolved the parliamentary group will be renamed to BDC – People's Union. The two parties making up the parliamentary group will retain operational independence.

The decisions within the group will be taken by ten MPs so that none of the factions could impose its opinion on the other when taking collective decisions.
