Bulgaria: Part of Materials for Fence on Bulgaria-Turkey Border Stolen File photo, BGNES

Bulgarian authorities are looking into the theft of construction materials used to build the fence between Bulgaria and Turkey aimed at stopping the inflow of migrants, the local administration in the town of Haskovo says.

The lack of materials will not affect construction and the fence will be ready by June 15, the Bulgarian National Radio quotes Haskovo's governor Stanislav Dachev as saying.

The BGN 26 M (EUR 13 M) section on the territory of Haskovo region is part of a bigger fence extended along parts of the common border.

The decision to build the first sections was taken following increased migratory pressure on the country in 2013, when Bulgaria and Greece became the first countries hit by the migrant crisis originating from the war in Syria.
