Winter Tourism: 1.8 Million Visit Bulgaria

Road haulage companies settled in Bulgaria and Austria have served as front companies for shipping of large volumes of cannabis and cocaine by a Greek-Albanian organized crime group targeted in a law enforcement operation, Europol has announced.
Eleven Greeks and six Albanians from the organised crime network involved in large-scale drug trafficking were arrested in Greece and Belgium on 9 May in an operation led by Greece and supported by Belgium and Europol, according to a statement posted on the website of the EU law enforcement agency.
“The network was mainly based in Greece and is suspected of having made hundreds of millions of euros by shipping narcotics to a number of European countries. House searches resulted in the seizure of 698 kg of cannabis in Greece and 96.5 kg of hashish in Belgium,” Europol said.
Details about the road hauliers settled in Bulgaria which had served as front companies for drug trafficking were not disclosed.
With the criminal investigation still underway “further arrests may be seen in the near future,” according to the statement.
