A crash between two buses and a fuel tanker claimed the lives of 73 people in Afghanistan on Sunday.

More than fifty other people were injured and taken to hospital in Ghazni province.

The collision occurred on the main road linking the capital Kabul with the southern city of Kandahar.

According to authorities, the crash was caused by reckless driving.

Local residents helped firefighters to pull survivors from the three vehicles which were engulfed by fire after the crash, the BBC informs.

A total of 125 passengers were travelling on the two buses.
