Big Win for Bulgaria and Romania as Austria Lifts Schengen Veto!
Austria has officially announced that it is lifting its veto on Bulgaria and Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area by land
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov unveiled the completely renovated archaeological reserve Deultum near the village of Debelt in the municipality of Sredets on Sunday.
The reserve shows the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.
All artifacts which have been found on the territory of the archaeological reserve are exhibited in the newly-constructed museum.
Among the artifacts displayed in the museum are: ancient thermae, temple dedicated to God Asclepius, which was later converted into a temple for the worship of the imperial cult, the fortification system, which features the best preserved walls from the times of the Bulgarian khans Krum and Omurtag.
Visitors can also see the church, necropolis, rock cemeteries, fortress which connected the bay of Burgas with Strandzha mountain.
Later, Debelt became the first settlement of the region where a Roman legion was stationed.
The opening on Sunday was the last stage of the project "Deultum – door to the mysterious Strandzha", which has been realised under the Regional Development Programme for the previous programme period.
The project amounted to nearly BGN 2.8 M, with nearly BGN 500 000 of them provided by the municipality of Sredets.
