Bulgaria: Bulgaria, US to Exchange Information on Lost, Stolen Passports

The Bulgarian government approved at its regular meeting on Wednesday, the draft of an intergovernmental agreement between Bulgaria and the US on the exchange of information about lost and stolen passports through Interpol.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova was authorised to conduct the negotiations on the agreement, which will be concluded by the exchange of diplomatic notes.

At present, Bulgaria submits information on lost and stolen passports to Interpol on a daily basis and the database can be accessed by all member states of Interpol.

The conclusion of a bilateral agreement is necessary in order to fulfill one of the criteria required for participation in the visa waiver programme of the US.
