Bulgarian mountaineers Boyan Petrov and Atanas Skatov will be in the same expedition which will attempt to ascend the tenth highest peak in the world – Annapurna in the Himalayas.
Rising at an altitude of 8091 metres, Annapurna is considered as one of the deadliest eight thousanders to climb, with roughly every third attempt resulting in fatality.
On Tuesday, the expedition, which includes 21 people from fourteen countries, flew by airplane from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From there the expedition embarked on five-hour bus journey to Tatopani.
The expedition will be transported to the base camp by helicopter on Wednesday, daily Dnevnik informs.
Both Petrov and Skatov selected Annapurna as their first goal for the year and they will try to ascend it as part of their independent attempts to climb the fourteen highest peaks in the world.
Last year, the two Bulgarians ascended the eighth highest peak in the world – Manaslu in two consecutive days.
Petrov was the first Bulgarian to ascend the peak, while Skatov followed suit on the next day, becoming the first vegan to climb it.
