Bulgaria: Police Detain Three Suspected of People Smuggling

Three people have been arrested in Pazardzhik, Southern Bulgaria, on suspicion of people smuggling and offering bribes, police say.

Authorities report in a statement they stopped on Saturday a minivan en route to Sofia with a Bulgarian driver where ten people with no identity documents, who claimed to be from Afghanistan, were traveling.

As police were inspecting the documents of the driver and another Bulgarian accompanying him, a third Bulgarian approach suggesting the officers could take a bribed to "turn a blind eye" on the minivan.
