Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov ordered on Thursday the cancellation of another set of public procurement tenders worth BGN 170 M.

Two of the public procurement procedures were launched by the municipality of Varna and the other one by Burgas.

Borisov has already held talks with the mayors of Varna and Burgas, Ivan Portnih and Dimitar Nikolov, Darik radio informs.

The tenders in Varna amounted to BGN 144.5 M and were for the construction of road and municipal infrastructure and water purification plant in the nearby resort of Golden Sands.

The BGN 12 M tender for the building of a sports complex with an indoor pool in Burgas was also cancelled.

No contractors have been selected for the two tenders in Varna, while the one in Burgas was cancelled due to all candidates submitting offers above BGN 12 M.

This is the third set of public procurement tenders cancelled this week.

On Monday, the government terminated the tender for the construction of lots 1 and 2 of the Hemus motorway worth BGN 800 M.

It was cancelled due to the lack of EU funding and media reports that linked the contractors to controversial MP and media mogul Delyan Peevski and the head of Lukoil Bulgaria, Valentin Zlatev.

On Wednesday, the government announced another set of cancelled public tenders worth over BGN 600 M.

Among them were the BGN 500 M tender of the interior ministry for the issue of new identity documents and another one for the construction of forest road and infrastructure in southwestern Bulgaria worth BGN 95 M.

Tenders representing broad public interest will be relaunched under the recently adopted Public Procurement Act, which is foreseen to provide greater transparency and eliminate doubts about the selection of contractors.
