As many as 106 migrants from Syria have been found in a TIR truck with a Bulgarian license plate en route from Turkey to Bulgaria, Cihan News Agency Reports citing Turkish authorities.

The media outlet writes the migrants were rescued from "possible asphyxia" in the packed truck which was stopped for an inspection in the western Turkish province of Edirne, not far from the Bulgaria-Turkey border.

Rodopi24, a Bulgaria-based news website, quotes Edirne reporters as saying that 45 of the migrants were children.

Five people, two of them Bulgarian citizens, were arrested.

The migrants, now accommodated in the Tunca center near Edirne, had to share the bodywork with loads of construction materials, the official cargo of the truck.

Last year, several Bulgarians were arrested over their alleged involvement in the incident with 71 migrants whose lifeless bodies were found in a refrigerated truck in Austria.
