Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticised the continuing Russian airstrikes in Syria and in particular the recent attack on the city of Aleppo, which reportedly resulted in the death of thirty civilians.

Cavusoglu also called on the international community to condemn Russian airstrikes targeting civilians in Syria, Daily Harriyet informs.

In his words, Russian airstrikes targeting civilians and causing the death of children, babies and women constituted a “war crime”.

Russia has recently intensified its airstrikes west of Aleppo, reportedly targeting a number of residential areas, including schools.

Recently, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed that seventeen people, including eight children, were killed and twenty others were injured in a Russian airstrike that hit a school in Aleppo on Sunday.

According to Cavusoglu, Russian airstrikes were hampering efforts at reaching a political solution in Syria.

Meanwhile, US State department and UN have also raised concerns over the continuing Russian airstrikes in Syria.

State Department spokesman John Kirby quoted reports stating that 70 % of Russian airstrikes were conducted against either opposition groups or innocent targets.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also expressed concerns about reports of the deadly Russian airstrike in the Syrian city of Aleppo, a UN spokesman said on Monday.
