Bulgaria: False Bomb Threat Targeted New Year’s Concert in Downtown Sofia

A false bomb threat targeted the traditional concert on New Year’s Eve on the Alexander Battenberg square in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.

This was announced by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) on Friday.

A youth, supposedly under the influence of alcohol, decided to make a joke by dialing the 112 emergency telephone number and claiming a bomb had been planted on the square.

The specialized police units reacted immediately by carrying out a swift and discreet check, which established no explosive devices.

The organizers of the concert, Sofia Municipality and BNT, decided there was no need to cancel the event.
