Bulgaria's Tourism Struggles to Diversify Beyond Traditional Offerings
Bulgaria continues to lag behind neighboring countries in achieving significant growth in its tourism sector
Legendary Italian footballer Roberto Baggio is the next player to confirm his participation in the show celebrating the 50th birthday of Bulgarian football legend Hristo Stoichkov next year.
With the confirmation of Baggio, the number of Ballon d'Or holders to take part in the show has risen to two, with Stoichkov being the other one to have been awarded the prize.
In fact, Baggio and Stoichkov were awarded the Ballon d'Or in two consecutive years, with the Italian winning the prize in 1993 and the Bulgarian following suit the next year.
The show entitled "50 years number 8" (after Stoichkov's jersey number) will take place at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia on 20 May 2016.
The show will bring together Bulgarian and international football stars from the present and the recent past, with the participants to be split into two teams depending on whether they rely on their left foot or prefer playing with their right foot.
Among the foreigners, Argentina's legend Diego Maradona was the first to confirm his attendance, followed by Colombian Carlos Valderrama, Romanian stars Gheorghe Hagi and Gheorghe Popescu, goalkeepers Jorge Campos (Mexico) and Jose Luis Chilavert (Paraguay), Chilean Ivan Zamorano, Italy's Daniele Massaro, Gianfranco Zola and Antonio Benarrivo and Croatian legends Davor Suker and Zvonimir Boban.
Five Bulgarians have confirmed their participation so far, namely Nasko Sirakov, Yordan Letchkov, Lyuboslav Penev, Krasimir Balakov and Emil Kostadinov.
All five of them together with Stoichkov were all part of Bulgaria's golden football generation of the 1990s.
Tickets for the show are available for purchase in the network of Eventim (online at eventim.bg), with the prices ranging from BGN 18.88 to BGN 88.88.
