Russian President Vladimir Putin has it clear that Bulgaria is adhering to its EU commitments and it complying with the Third Energy Package, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.
His words are in response to earlier comments by Putin, who on Thursday expressed his shock at the "gutless" behavior of Bulgaria on the South Stream pipeline project, which Moscow abandoned after Sofia refused to issue construction permits.
Borisov has insisted that it isn't animosity of Bulgaria against Russia that caused the project to come to a halt.
In Putin's words, however, Sofia failed to defend its national interest by renouncing South Stream.
Russia terminated the project last December, with its President citing opposition from the EU that resulted in Bulgaria refusing to issue construction permits. Agreement was reached back then to build a pipeline to Turkey (Turkish Stream) instead.
