FlixBus, the renowned European bus company, is set to launch new routes to and from Bulgaria in anticipation of the summer season
More than two million of the new vignette stickers for 2016 will go on sale in Bulgaria on Tuesday despite the discontent and protests of drivers against their increased prices.
A total of 4.7 million vignettes from the different price categories and for the various categories of vehicles will be released on the market until the end of January next year.
The most widely purchased vignettes – the annual ones for cars, will constitute more than one million of all new stickers.
Until the end of the year, drivers will be able to purchase vignettes for both 2015 and 2016, with the annual stickers for 2015 for all kinds of vehicles to be valid until 31 January 2016.
Architectural and historical monuments are featured in the design of the new stickers, which have improved safety features protecting vignettes against falsification.
The Road Infrastructure Agency officially presented on Monday the new stickers and pointed that the funds for maintenance of the country’s roads are insufficient, which necessitated the increase in the prices.
The price of the annual sticker for cars increased from BGN 67 to BGN 97, while the monthly and weekly vignettes increased by BGN 5 each, reaching a price of respectively BGN 30 and BGN 15.
The revenues from the sale of vignettes in 2015 exceed BGN 225 M, which represented an increase of BGN 8 M.
These revenues are mainly invested in the maintenance of motorways and first-class roads.
The regional ministry estimates that BGN 700 M are needed for the complete maintenance of the country’s road network.
According to Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova, the price of annual stickers for cars should gradually reach BGN 150.
A total of 6 160 264 vignettes have been sold from the beginning of the year until the end of November, which represented an increase of 164 000 compared to the same period last year.
