Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and President Rosen Plevneliev will officially unveil the first science and technology park in BulgariaSofia Tech Park on Friday.

The opening ceremony will be also attended by President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska, the Minister President of Bavaria Horst Seehofer, EU Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu, Bulgarian Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski and CEO of Sofia Tech Park Elitsa Panayotova.

A total of BGN 76 M have been invested in the construction of the park, with most of the funds provided from EU programmes.

During the next programme period, another BGN 52 M are foreseen for completing the park's construction, while BGN 16 M will be invested in supplementing the equipment of the laboratories.

Eleven laboratories for information and communications technology (ICT), biotechnology and green energy will be located on the territory of the park.

There will also be a special laboratory for swift development of prototypes, with the laboratories expected to be fully completed by March next year.

The official name of the project is Innovation + Technology Network, with its aim being to ease the cooperation between different companies and to become the first place which generates added value for the economy.

Among the first residents of the park are the Eleven fund together with three of the companies it has invested in.

The other two funds – Neveq and Launchub are considering whether to relocate their offices to the park, daily Dnevnik informs.

British Prime Minister David Cameron inspected the progress of construction of the park during his visit to Bulgaria last week.
