Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov expects junior coalition partners the Reformist Bloc to nominate a new Justice Minister following the resignation of Hristo Ivanov,  Deputy Prime Minister Rumyana Bachvarova has said.

No resignations of other cabinet ministers were expected at the moment, Bachvarova said in parliament on Wednesday after the legislature approved on second reading changes to the constitution relating to the reform of the judiciary, according to BGNES.

Bachvarova, who is also Minister of the Interior, said that it was a matter of nominating someone who would carry reforms further in the justice system rather than a personal choice.

While Bachvarova said that no names of potential successors have been discussed, she also suggested that GERB, the bigger partner on the minority coalition government, could also nominate a candidate to replace Ivanov.

"Our main task is to find a new Justice Minister and my visit here was to inform the coalition partners that the Prime Minister met with Hristo Ivanov. The main reason for Ivanov’s dissent is the allocation of quotas in the Supreme Judicial Council,” Bachvarova said.

Borisov and Ivanov have both agreed that the reform of Bulgaria's justice system must go on and find its elaboration in the Judicial System Act, Bachvarova said.
