The Bulgarian state is beginning an ambitious programme on reviving the country's poorest regions, which foresees the investment of BGN 5 B in these regions over the next ten years.

The programme targets the northwest region, the Strandzha-Sakar mountain range, the Rhodope mountains, the mountainous and border regions.

The programme includes 51 municipalities, which are inhabited by a third of the Bulgarian population and in practice it encompasses half of the country's territory.

The aim is to attract not only long-term investments, but also to retain young people in these regions, bTV station informs.

The state will have commitment to enterprises investing in new projects and personnel to reduce their taxes and to take charge of half of the interest rates due on new loans.

Benefits during university studies, including providing dwelling, are foreseen for young graduates, who decide to stay behind in these regions.

The programme has a perspective of more than years, with the majority of the funds to be provided by EU programmes.
