An overnight shooting at a cafe in the German city of Cologne left one person dead and five other injured.

The gunfight took place at a cafe closed for renovation in the Nippes district of Cologne.

The identity of the people involved in the incident and the reasons behind the shooting were not immediately known.

Three wounded men, aged between 28 and 52 years old, were taken to hospital.

According to media reports, the police detained two suspects, with the total number of attackers being five.

At the time of the incident, there were six people and a bartender in the cafe.
