A shooting in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday night claimed the lives of two Bosnian soldiers and left five other people injured.

According to police, the two servicemen were shot in a betting shop in the suburb of Rajlovac, the BalkanInsight informs.

The reasons for the attack are unknown, but television N1 claimed that the attacker shouted the Islamist slogan “Allahu Akbar”.

The report has not been confirmed and the director of the federal police directorate said that it was too early to speak of terrorism.

After shooting the troops, the attacker turned against a bus parked near the betting shop and wounded another soldier standing close to it.

The driver of the bus and two of the passengers were reportedly slightly injured, apparently by shards of glass.

A female employee of the betting shop was also wounded, Radio Free Europe reports.

Later the attacker committed suicide after his house in the Sokolje neighbourhood was surrounded by security forces.

Media identified the shooter as adherent of the Salafi movement, an ultraconservative Islamic ideology.
