The second largest city in Bulgaria - Plovdiv, which has been designated as one of the 2019 European Capitals of Culture, will host a jazz festival between November 2 and 6.

Grammy winner Kurt Elling will open this year’s edition of the Jazz Festival with some of his most famous songs for which he has been nominated ten times for the musical awards.

The prominent US vocalist will be performing in front of Bulgarian and international audience in the Boris Hristov Culture Centre in Plovdiv on Monday as he is celebrating his birthday.

The festival is the successor of the Plovdiv Jazz Nights Festival, which was established back in 2005. It promotes jazz music, gathering musicians from Bulgaria and all over the world to show their talent and love for jazz.

Every year the organisers assign different themes, this year's one being “vocal jazz.”

Among the international guests on the list are the great-great-granddaughter of Leo Tolstoy, Viktoria Tolstoy, and the Brazilian bossa nova singer Rosalia de Souza.

Bulgaria will be represented by performers such as Pavel, SkilleR & Logozarov Trio, the Four Ladies Sing Jazz formation made up of Hilda Kazasyan, Beloslava, Andronia Popova - Roni and Miroslava Katsarova, as well as others.

The Jazz Festival will offer to its audience not only music. The schedule also includes an exhibition, literature readings, seminars and public lectures and jam session at the Bee Bop Cafe in downtown Plovdiv.

The goal of the festival is to promote vocal jazz in all spheres of culture.

Tickets are available for purchase in the network of Eventim and online at eventim.bg.
