Bulgarian Steam Locomotive to Pull Its First Train after Restoration

A steam locomotive built more than 80 years ago will pull a train for the first time after its restoration in Bulgaria next weekend, the country’s state railways company BDZ announced on Sunday.
A passenger train comprising the locomotive and three carriages will shuttle October 17-18 between Sofia’s Central Railway Station and the city’s western neighbourhood of Bankya, BDZ said in a statement.
Tickets for a ride on the train pulled by the retro locomotive will go on sale on Monday.
The locomotive 46.03, which was was built by Polish manufacturer H. Cegielski in Poznan in 1931, has been in regular service with BDZ until the late 1960s before being retired in favour of diesel locomotives.
It is one of the largest tender locomotives in Europe and one of the most powerful steam locomotives in the history of BDZ, the company said.
